The Farmer's Secret

Some land holds what it’s given. The south field has been holding for a long time.

For forty years, the Mackey farm has stood quiet and respectable on a back road in rural Tennessee. Earl Mackey is the most trusted man in the county — steady, patient, the kind of face you’d pull over for. So when his granddaughter Cassie comes home to heal and pulls a tarnished bracelet out of a drought-cracked field, she has no idea she’s found the loose thread that will unravel everything.

Cassie was always the kind of person who couldn’t leave a closed drawer alone. Following the thread leads her to eight names, a hidden journal her grandmother kept for thirty years, and four acres everyone in her family has spent their lives learning not to see.

A literary thriller about knowing and not-knowing — and what it costs to finally look directly at the thing everyone has agreed not to. It’s a slow burn, told across several voices, with dread that builds through ordinary moments: a coffee cup handed over, a screen door creaking, a baseboard pressed for give.

Inside Story

I genuinely enjoyed reading the chapters. The story has a strong, compelling voice, and the writing is polished and immersive. The characters feel authentic, the relationships are believable, and the atmosphere is vivid enough to make each scene easy to picture. I especially appreciated the emotional depth and the gradual buildup of tension it kept me curious and invested in what would happen next.

About the Author

Luna May
Luna May grew up in Orlando, Florida, and has spent the last twenty-five years
building a life alongside her husband and their two children. In 2011, the family put
down new roots in South Carolina — a move that quietly changed everything. In the
years that followed, Luna earned her RN license, then her insurance license, moving
through the practical demands of life the way most people do, one credential, one
season at a time.

Now a homemaker, she has finally turned toward the thing she always meant to do.
The Wife's Experiment is her debut novel, drawn in no small part from the life she
knows most intimately. Most days you'll find her at home with her three dogs —
writing, or outside somewhere in the sun.

She has notebooks full of ideas, stories that have been waiting patiently for years. At
44, she's done making them wait.
