Chris and Julie make a split-second decision after a tragic accident—and it’s one that haunts every page of this slow-burning mystery. What begins as a horrifying hit-and-run spirals into a tangled web of lies and long-buried secrets. Meanwhile, DI Anna Moore is juggling two missing persons cases: a teenage girl and a young woman. At first glance, there’s no clear connection, but as the investigation deepens, she begins to uncover unsettling truths about people who seem perfectly ordinary.
The premise is compelling, and the dual timeline of crime and investigation kept me turning the pages. However, pacing was uneven at times, and some character choices felt more frustrating than suspenseful. While the twists are there, they didn’t always land with the punch I hoped for.
Still, if you enjoy procedural dramas with morally grey characters and a creeping sense of dread, this one may be worth a read.
