The Mystery of the Missing Bequest
The Salisbury Murders: book four
Wendy BoyntonMeg, an eighty-one year old care home resident, retired teacher and widow of a detective chief inspector, and Lauren, a nineteen year old care assistant, form an unlikely pair of amateur sleuths but their track record proves they can crack the toughest of cases.
When three, very valuable, leather-bound stamp albums go missing, Meg and Lauren are called in. As they start identifying possible suspects, the police are dealing with a fatal stabbing. Meg fears the cases are connected even though the police seem convinced otherwise. But if the victim was their thief, why was he then murdered? And, more importantly, how did the thief remove the albums without being seen?
This gripping mystery deals with themes of murder, theft and blackmail and, as the story races to it's thrilling conclusion, Lauren's own life in on the line.

The Mystery of the Missing Bequest is the fourth in the series by author Wendy Boynton. Once again Wendy leaves you wanting the next book in the series so you can find out what Meg and Lauren get up to. Although you don’t have to have read any of the previous books it would be helpful as you will understand the relationship of these two amateur sleuths. Meg is a retired school teacher and the elderly widow of a retired police officer and uses the skills she picked up from him when embarking on looking for the missing bequest. Lauren is her young accomplice working in the retirement home where Meg lives, and then add in Jack and Albert residents of two local retirement homes. Sophie has been left something of value in a will which is subsequently stolen before being handed over to her.
As usual with this series, throughout the book you think you know who has stolen the item and indeed how it was stolen only to find out how wrong you were. There are lots of twists and turns and Lauren does a bit of investigating on her own which doesn’t turn out too well. While reading the book l imagined l was there watching everything going on, as Wendy describes everything so clearly. I found myself telling Meg to slow down and Lauren not to do what she had planned as it might be dangerous. I could picture myself sitting in the cafe up the lane waiting for the characters to come in for their coffee and cake. This book is very easy to read and l found it most enjoyable and a real page turner. As always l am looking forward to the next one
