I had to read a few reviews to crystallize why this book left me flat.
I thoroughly enjoyed about half of it - creepy setting, PTSD, unreliable narrator, creepy histories, but then it started collapsing under its own weight and the 'reveal' was a bit too tangled and forced. Too many twists turn a book into a tangled mess! making M the villain would have made as much sense and been more compelling to be honest. (Though the nail varnish thing was silly)
Plus I don't really like the way Will treats Elin. Yes, let's constantly second guess the woman with PTSD and low confidence. That'll go over well. And then get stabbed.
But I did enjoy a lot of it. Just...endings man. Endings.
