Okay, so first off — it’s a quick read. I’ll give it that. The pacing is fine, the setting screams “classic thriller” with all the gloomy winter vibes and remote locations you’d expect. I could practically feel the frostbite on my nose and the hot cocoa in my hand… until I realized I’d read this story before. And before that. And maybe once more, but with different character names.

Don’t get me wrong — it’s not bad, it’s just painfully predictable. You’ve got your mysterious deaths, your brooding main character running from a dark past, and that one person you know you shouldn’t trust from page ten (and guess what? You’re right). I kept waiting for the twist that would slap me across the face — but it never came. It just politely tapped my shoulder and said, “You’ve seen this movie.”

So yeah, fast-paced? Yes. Atmospheric? Sure. Original or mind-blowing? Not even close. I wanted Dead of Winter to chill me — instead, it just mildly annoyed me like a cold draft you can’t find the source of.
But ey that’s just me.

Lola Henderson just wants to know why her parents gave her away at birth. The only person who can give her those answers is her only living relative, her biological brother Daniel. When she reached out to him before he was cold and harsh, he didn’t want to meet her.
When she is given the opportunity to work near Norfolk a few days before Christmas, she reaches out again. He agrees, but as he is in a wheelchair, she would have to go to his home, Midwinter Manor.

As she sets off the snow starts to fall, but during the meeting with him the snow had come down hard and now she is trapped with a brother that is hostile and his wife who seemed a little more cordial but it isn’t long before Lola started wondering if everything they are telling her is true but as things progress is she even safe in this manor?
I loved the setting of Dead of Winter, with a snowstorm hitting Norfolk and leaving the ground covered in snow with a cold and creepy manor, with no electricity or phone signal.

Keri Beevis writes thrillers so well that I always feel like I am in the story as the main character and living what she is going through, and I cannot put the book down because I want to know what happens next.

This was a fantastic book and had me at the first page.
If you are looking for your next winter thriller, I would definitely recommend it.
