Scott Westerfeld really said “let’s crank the stakes to unbearable” and then didn’t let up for a second. This installment? Absolute chaos—in the best way.

Tally as a Special is honestly terrifying and fascinating all at once. The way her mind is sharpened into something almost inhuman, while that tiny, stubborn piece of her old self keeps flickering underneath? Obsessed. It’s that constant tension—control vs. identity, power vs. humanity—that makes this hit so hard.

The pacing is relentless, the action is brutal, and the emotional undercurrent sneaks up on you when you least expect it. You can feel every choice weighing on Tally, even when she’s trying not to feel anything at all. And that internal battle? Way louder than any fight scene.

What really stuck with me is how unsettling the “perfection” becomes. It’s not shiny and aspirational anymore—it’s sharp, cold, and deeply wrong. Watching Tally wrestle with that, while being designed not to care, is what elevates this from dystopian fun to something that lingers.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sharp. Intense. Emotionally ruthless.
This one doesn’t just raise the stakes—it slices right through them.
