A bitter mayoral race. A serial killer's return.

Saint Pierre, Missouri, is coming undone. A vicious mayoral race is dividing the town just as three women vanish along the River Trail Lookout, the infamous hunting ground of the elusive River Trail Reaper.

Every disappearance sparks another conspiracy theory.

At the center of the chaos is an ambitious news reporter, Ramsey Iredale, a man whose quick wit and striking looks mask a ruthless hunger for ratings. As politically charged AI videos flood the airwaves, Ramsey sees an opportunity. Determined to turn tragedy into career-defining television, he blurs the line between journalism and manipulation.

Sylvie Roberts is a polished news anchor struggling to outrun a traumatic past of her own. As the investigation intensifies, the latest disappearances force her to confront the past she thought she'd buried.

The River Trail Woods belong to the River Trail Reaper.

With bodies mounting and panic consuming the community, the killer turns his attention to the one person he blames for disturbing his peace. As fear spreads through Saint Pierre and every new revelation deepens the mystery, no one knows who to trust.

Saint Pierre, Missouri, is already divided by a bitter mayoral race when three women disappear near the River Trail Lookout—the same area tied to the infamous River Trail Reaper. As panic spreads, so do conspiracy theories, and politically charged AI videos begin flooding the airwaves.

Reporter Ramsey Iredale sees the chaos as his chance to make a name for himself, while anchor Sylvie Roberts is forced to face a past she’s tried hard to bury. With the body count rising and the killer watching from the shadows, the town becomes a place where images can be manipulated, stories can be spun, and no one knows who to trust.

This one hit a little too close to home. The media manipulation felt frighteningly believable, and I devoured the story in two sittings. Nicole Annbury does a great job mixing AI deepfakes and viral conspiracy culture with a classic cat-and-mouse thriller. The newsroom setting gives the story a fast-paced, high-stakes feel, and Ramsey’s ruthless ambition colliding with Sylvie’s painful past kept me turning pages.

I was especially drawn to the question at the heart of it all: What if every piece of evidence could be faked? The River Trail setting is eerie and claustrophobic, and the story made me think about how quickly tragedy can become entertainment and how hard it is to find the truth when everyone has an agenda.

A couple of the political subplots slowed the momentum for me, but the twisty climax made up for it. This is a sharp, unsettling thriller about how easily the truth can be distorted.

If you’re looking for a thriller that feels ripped from tomorrow’s headlines, put this one on your list.

I loved how it explores the dangers of real news, manipulation, and how easily the truth can be twisted. The tension kept building, and I was hooked. It’s twisty, unpredictable, and completely addictive!
