Vega has finally paid off her debt and is able to afford the entrance fee to the Merlin-class Celestor exam. There’s only one thing in her way—one person. Malisha Bane. All that is bad enough, but Vega is stuck in a collaborative competition with her arch rival, and she is told that only one in the room will be permitted to graduate with the title of Merlin-class Celestor.

Vega’s cohort doesn’t get very far before the murder Vega saw in her vision comes true. She soon concludes that someone is trying to eliminate the competition. And for once, Vega’s biggest worry isn’t Malisha.
