If you enjoy slow-burn thrillers with a strong emotional core, The Truth Is a Lie is a solid pick. The story leans heavily into atmosphere and psychological tension rather than fast-paced action, and it does a great job of building unease early on.
The biggest strength of the book is its main character, Abby. Her guilt, anxiety, and fierce protectiveness as a mother make her feel real and relatable, even when the story takes darker turns. The way the narrative plays with memory, truth, and perception keeps you questioning what’s actually happening.
There’s also a strong creepy factor—especially involving children and “imaginary” elements—which gives the book a subtle horror edge without fully becoming a horror novel.
That said, the pacing may feel a bit slow at the beginning, and some familiar thriller tropes appear. But once the story starts connecting its threads, it becomes much more gripping.
